Ashmark Farm is situated in the scenic Glen Afton in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, 2 miles south from the A76 Dumfries to Ayr road, at the village of New Cumnock in Ayrshire.
New Cumnock is a rural residential community, with a library, a games hall, an Open Air Heated Swimming Pool and a 9-hole parkland golf course.
There is a Post Office, a chemist, a general Co-Op, two excellent bakers shops, which have their own bake houses, two petrol stations, a hotel and three carry out restaurants. The local Spar Shop is open from 8.00am until 10.00pm, where you can get a good selection of food provisions. An excellent butcher’s shop providing locally produced quality meat, the proprietor also sells his produce at Ayrshire Farmer’s Market
A new indoor leisure facility at Cumnock (5miles away) called ‘Visions, provides a swimming pool, sauna, spa bath, steam room and fitness & aerobics suite.
Approximately 1.5 miles from New Cumnock, in a delightful setting overlooking the loch and the golf course is Lochside House Hotel, which has been beautifully extended and refurbished, there you can enjoy freshly prepared food all day. www.lochside-hotel.com
Glen Afton was frequently visited by Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet, who made the River Afton famous in the song “Flow gently sweet Afton among thy green braes”… New Cumnock Burns Club have built a Memorial Cairn and a lovely picnic area beside the river.
The scattered broadleaf woodlands and conifer plantations, with open grassy slopes, clear running water from the river and reservoir at the head of the glen, make this a natural haven for wildlife and birds.

Ayrshire offers the rambler a huge variety of accessible walks. Views from the high ground are breathtaking and on a clear day you can enjoy the fantastic spectacle of the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde. There are a network of paths from various villages and towns including Straiton, Barr, Girvan, Muirkirk, and Largs.
